Breaking the mould of trans-national education
Traditional models of trans-national education (TNE), such as 2+2 undergraduate degree programmes or ‘Year abroad’ programmes are not widely suitable for education in the health sciences as they can restrict the registration of graduates as professional practitioners.
In this project we aim to develop exciting new approaches to trans-national education which will allow Pharmacy students in the UK and Vietnam to experience working together whilst retaining the ability to register as Pharmacists.
We are focusing our pedagogical research around the field of Natural Products Chemistry and Traditional Medicine as these areas cut across national boundaries and are key in the development of new treatments for infectious diseases and cancer.
We are investigating and evaluating two distinct alternative approaches to TNE which will enable students to enhance their self-efficacy and benefit from receiving a cross-cultural experience within their education without studying overseas.
Digital teaching support materials
We are preparing a series of bilingual and easily translatable video resources to supplement the teaching of natural products chemistry and traditional medicines. We are developing three different types of resource:

-
Short videos on Vietnamese traditional medicines
-
Videos focused on experimental techniques
-
Vignettes on key concepts in natural product chemistry
Cross-country research projects
We are developing joint student-led undergraduate research projects where the research project will be designed by groups of students spanning the countries and institutions and the research performed by those students in both countries working together.
