ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to the pneumonia outbreak, the workshop at Phenikaa university and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy are canceled. During the workshops at Nguyen Tat Thanh university every participant will get free facemasks , free hand sanitizers and body temperature checks.

These FREE 2-day workshops are sponsored by the British Council Vietnam as part of the UK: VN HEP programme linking UK and Vietnamese University in developing new teaching approaches.

FACILITATOR PROFILES

Dr. Susan Matthews (University of East Anglia)

​

Dr Susan Matthews is a UK Registered Pharmacist with 18 years of experience teaching Chemistry to undergraduates in the UK and Ireland.

She obtained her BPharm (Hons) from the University of Nottingham, UK, her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Bath, UK and completed post-doctoral fellowships in the Czech republic, Germany and the UK.

She has a particular interest in curriculum design, having been involved in the founding of the UEA School of Pharmacy, and has acted as an external examiner for a number of UK universities and as a consultant for Pearson on new high school curricula.

Dr. Paul McDermott (University of East Anglia)

​

Dr Paul McDermott is a Senior Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry within the School of Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia (UEA). He graduated from the University of east Anglia with a BSc and PhD in Chemistry. His education research interests focus on learners’ self-assessment and metacognitive awareness. Towards this end he has developed a number of active learning pedagogies as well as a novel method for the measurement of learners’ self-assessment accuracy.

Dr Zoë Waller (University of East Anglia)

Dr Zoë Waller is an Associate Professor in Chemical Biology at UEA. She gained her undergraduate degree in Chemistry with Pharmaceutical and Forensic science from the University of Bradford and her PhD in Chemical Biology from the University of Cambridge. She has more than 14 years’ experience of teaching at the chemistry: biology interface to both Pharmacy and Chemistry students and is part of the degree accreditation panel for the Royal Society of Chemistry She is a keen enthusiast for the use of flipped lectures and alternative assessment approaches and an experienced practitioner in outreach to school students and  the general public.

What to expect from the workshop

Fun !

These workshop are hands on participatory events.

You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge with and learn from your peers.

You will gain experience in the delivery of different teaching sessions and develop activities you can incorporate into your own teaching.

What will you cover?

  • Surface versus deep learning and constructive alignment: why active learning works

  • Tools and Techniques for delivering active learning: using technology to facilitate learning

  • Gamification of learning: how to exploit natural competitiveness and put the fun into learning

  • Moving beyond the exam: why active learning leads to alternative assessment

Who is this workshop for?

Anybody who has an interest in improving their teaching and the learning outcomes of their students.

You could be new to teaching or have years of experience.

You could have a teaching role in pharmacy, any other healthcare subject or science in a public or private University from anywhere in Vietnam.

Just come with an open mind and a willingness to join in!

We have 50 spaces available at each venue

Don’t live in HCMC, Ha Noi or Can Tho?

Bursaries are available to cover travel and accommodation to allow you to attend these workshops if you don't live near the workshop venues.
